I sewed something to wear to my nephew's wedding next month. I hope it's not going to be as hot on his wedding day as it is today. I wore this for about 10 minutes to have these photos taken and already started perspiring. It was 33 degrees Celsius when I checked my phone app. This good thing about the weekend being so uncomfortably hot was that we stayed home most of the time, and I got quite a bit of sewing done.
Back and Front
Pattern: based on May Me Model no. 30 Adult Clothes of May Me Style
- Added a 20 (10-5-5) cm width pleat at middle back.
- Sleeves were narrowed at the lower edge and lengthened by finishing the hem with bias tape instead of the original hem which was folded up by 3 cm. Likewise bodice was lengthened by sewing a machine rolled hem instead of folding up 3 cm.
Bows: Double-faced polyester satin ribbon from Minton Ribbons (Kin Soon Pte Ltd) It was very difficult to find good quality ribbon locally so I was glad to find this source at Arab Street. I did wash a short swatch of the ribbon first to check that it was colourfast. I am not sure how well the ribbons will hold up to laundering, so I will probably hand wash this top.
I found this way of sewing quite fun. Starting off with something I would like to wear and then working to create the pattern by modifying an existing pattern that I already have.
